My initial consults to get a good idea of what my client dreams of and what specific services they're looking for from me often consists of the same groups of questions. This consult typically lasts about 45 minutes. I have a lot of fun going through and discovering what the couple's style is and what kind of feel they'd like to have. Now about a half hour into this list we get to hair and make up. 99% of brides want someone to do their hair for their wedding day. After all ladies - this is the most photographed day of your life! Sometimes they want to spend $250 on a stylist and sometimes clients don't want to go over $70. Which is fine as long as you're keeping in mind - you get what you pay for.

Then comes the question: "Have you considered hiring a make up artist?" Then I hold my breath for a moment. 40% of the time I get the relieving "yes."

The other 60% I get a standard set of no's. Allow me to give you, from a planner's point of view - exactly what we're thinking.

1. We know you know how to do your own make up.

.... We also know you're going to be an emotional ball of love the morning of your wedding. We know you do your make up everyday, we know you've watched cool youtube videos, we have too. However, for the biggest day of your life, with 17 emotions running through your head at once, let's just trust the professional this one day.

2. The natural look may not be the best.

Make up artists know how to pull off the look. It's a subtle and light foundation with touches of highlights. Why do you want to skip the natural look on your big day? Because if you have redness from crying, if you have a small break out, if you have anything show up that normally wouldn't be there - you'll have these photos for the rest of your life to remind you of that blemish.

3. We want you to relax before your ceremony.

No, really. Isn't that why you hired a wedding planner in the first place? So things would be less stressful and you'd be able to enjoy your day... Trust us that little bit of relaxing is going to go a long way!

4. $50 for application really isn't that much.

That wedding photographer that you searched high and low for - they are going to do their job. And if you listened to your wedding planner, they're going to do it well. On average a bride will have 2,000 photos taken of her on her wedding day. $50 really isn't a big investment to make sure that these photos that your friends and family are going to have for ever, portray you correctly.

5. We just want you to be happy.

Your planner doesn't doubt you, your planner doesn't think you need a better application, we just want you to be 100% taken care of on your wedding day. There's nothing too complex about it. We just want you happy.

Thank you so much Fashion Villa & Light Hearted Photography for the amazing photos!
