4 Things You Should Know About Linens Before Your Wedding
I like to believe that every bride dreams of an elegant, flawless wedding at some point in her life. I also like to believe I can help make that come true for most couples. A big thing my clients and I talk about during our design meeting is what kind of linens they will be having. Some want it big with backdrops and ceiling draping and other couples don't mind a table cloth with a runner down the middle. Whichever way you decide to go keep these four things in mind:
1. Renting linens is less expensive then purchasing...
.... If you go to the right company. I have seen some company's charge more then it costs to actually purchase the linens. The reason they do this is because they figure in the costs of their own time in addition to washing and drying. For me, that's just never something that made sense to me. Bridal Bug Events has over 7,000 pieces of decor and rents every item at 1/3 of the cost to buy, which is how most companies choose to do their rentals. Don't be thrown off by the higher prices of some companies, sometimes all it takes is a little shopping around to save $700 - $1,200.
2. Think back to classic art class and consider using a color wheel to pick accent colors.
It may seem standard but using a color wheel helps you to remember all your options and avoid over using the same color when designing your wedding hall. It's easy to forget a major color that could perfectly bring your design together.
3. Remember the difference between floor length and lap length table cloths.
Different lengths create different vibes in the room. Floor length table cloths always create an elegant, yet comfortable feelings. Did you know studies show guests whose feet are covered tend to be more comfortable in social settings? If you choose lap length table cloths this is for a more laid back setting.
4. Do your best to get table cloths that fit the table you are using.
As a wedding planner, it's my job to look for details. Nothing rubs the wrong way worse than seeing square table cloths on round tables. To me it's like putting puzzle pieces in the wrong spot but calling the puzzle complete. By all means, if that's your style, or if you're looking for a collection look, own it. However, if you're going for an elegant or tasteful look, the correct size linen on the correct tables always helps.
